though fair: it has no Chinese. But also no legacy wypipo Americans. Shazeer's family comes from Israel. this isn't about "wypipos can't do mafs". Americans even import wypipos, despite being like half of "WEIRD" population globally. High Skilled Immigration is an addiction.
I think Americans overrate their deep tech talent advantage. They think author lists on papers like Vaswani et al. are 80% immigrant because they've brain-drained the planet near-dry while being 4% of it. The reality is, they underutilize domestic talent. China, maybe, doesn't.
