I feel we're getting a glimpse of a future where AI is only provided to a privileged few, and that's not a future I want to live in.

Many users voiced support for shifting to open-source AI models by default because they see it as a way to reduce supply chain risks from closed models and prevent an elite-only future.

@NoahZiems Let's do it!

You have no control of whether a model gets shut down, subtly dumber over time, token costs increase, proprietary data leakage, inference speed, etc.
That would be unacceptable at any other point in an enterprises supply chain and the same will be true for models.

As time goes on I suspect we'll see many many more companies shift from using closed-source models by default to using open-source models by default. Open source is getting really good now and their hand is largely being forced anyway

@NoahZiems SCR hahaha

@NoahZiems even more reason for nvidia to release a true frontier lllm
Even setting token costs aside, I think it will become increasingly clear to companies of all sizes that relying on closed source models for ~anything important is a massive supply chain risk.
