Chrome can now carry scroll position and draft forms across devices

Google's browser update also expands Gemini's media analysis and adds interactive quizzes for some desktop users.

TLDR

Chrome's Send to Your Device feature can now preserve a page's scroll position and partially filled forms when moving a tab between a signed-in phone and computer. Google is also expanding Gemini in Chrome so it can analyze more non-YouTube audio and video after playback, while a new quiz tool can turn the current tab into interactive questions. The quiz feature is initially rolling out on desktop in English in the U.S. and India, with more regions and mobile support planned.

Chrome can now preserve more than a web address when users send a tab between devices. Google's updated handoff carries the page's scroll position and partially filled forms, letting someone move between a signed-in phone and computer without returning to the top or retyping unfinished fields.

Featured Source

Google announced the change as part of a set of study-focused browser updates. The company says Send to Your Device now saves the “exact state” of a tab at the moment it is sent. That is a handoff initiated by the user, not a promise that every live element on a page will continuously synchronize across devices.

On desktop, 9to5Google notes that users can find the command under the three-dot menu's Cast, Save, and Share section or add it to the toolbar. Android exposes the option through Chrome's share menu.

Gemini broadens its study tools

The same update expands Gemini in Chrome beyond YouTube when working with media. After a supported audio or video file has played, Google says the browser assistant can identify takeaways, locate specific information and explain confusing sections in podcasts, recordings and videos hosted elsewhere on the web.

Gemini can also generate interactive quizzes from the current tab, including Google Docs, research papers and YouTube videos. Google says the quiz feature is rolling out in English on desktop in the U.S. and India first, with additional regions and mobile support planned for later.

Those availability limits apply to the Gemini features. The cross-device handoff still requires users to send the tab between their devices, and preserving partially completed forms could carry information users should review before moving a page to a shared or less-secure device.
