TLDR: 1. Declare AI too dangerous for ordinary competition so you propose a regulatory regime where only the largest incumbents can survive 2. Warn about labor displacement while selling the product to executives as a labor-displacement tool 3. Warn about state overreach while asking the state to license and gatekeep frontier models 4. Warn about corporate power while sketching a corporate-state cartel over compute, release, security, export controls, and deployment
Many users praised the critic for exposing inconsistencies in AI regulation and safety advocacy involving Dario Amodei, while others objected by accusing the positions of hypocrisy, lack of empathy, and regulatory capture similar to FTX.

@DarioAmodei Do you even see the contradictions here? Did you even ask your own models?

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Same exact playbook that @SBF_FTX tried to run with FTX

@DarioAmodei "Apply Hayek to the agency that slows my customers, suspend Hayek for the agency that gates my competitors"

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei He doesn't feel, see, think, or hear like the rest of us. Refer to the detached, soulless lack of empathy depicted in the demons in Frieren. Words are only a tool for him.

@jconorgrogan @banteg @DarioAmodei Sounds very much like what ftx attempted to do. Regulatory capture -> moat -> monopoly

@jconorgrogan Do you have ANY concerns about runaway AI ?

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Also, our neutral caring stewardship policy comes with a $350m carrot, something I'm sure makes no difference compared to others who have proposed ai policies before this

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Boo

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei 🎯

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Nailed it.

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei What’s wrong with them?

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei You interpreted this TLDR wrong.

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei

@jconorgrogan Go Conor !

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Sums it up very nicely…

@jross7878 @jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei @SBF_FTX guess who invested in Anthropic in the past. Mr Fried. They are part of the same EA community

@jross7878 @jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei @SBF_FTX say more

@jconorgrogan @DarioAmodei Pretty much this.

@GeeCee802 @jconorgrogan I think what concerns him most is probably runaway AI, and the biggest risk to causing runaway AI is centralization.
If ASI is inevitable, and I think it is very clear that it is, then decentralized, democratized, and diverse AI is the ONLY answer to containing it.
