Claude Opus 5.5 reaches GitHub Copilot and AWS

Claude Opus 5.5 is now available through GitHub Copilot and AWS, extending Anthropic’s latest Opus model beyond its own platform a day after release.

GitHub announced that eligible Copilot Pro+, Max, Business and Enterprise users can select Opus 5.5 in Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, Copilot CLI, the coding agent, the Copilot app, GitHub.com, mobile clients and several IDEs. The company says the rollout is gradual, so the model may not appear for every user immediately.

Two AWS routes

AWS says customers can access the model through Amazon Bedrock or the Claude Platform on AWS. Bedrock offers the model through AWS-managed services, while the Claude Platform route provides Anthropic’s native platform experience through the AWS console, billing and authentication setup.

That distribution matters for teams that already use GitHub or AWS as the place where developer tools and AI workloads are managed. Availability through those channels does not make the model universally enabled: GitHub says Business and Enterprise administrators can manage access through Copilot model policy.

Performance claims still need context

Anthropic says Opus 5.5 uses fewer tokens and costs less than Opus 5 on typical workloads. It lists prices of $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, with cache-read pricing of $0.20 per million tokens. It also says the model has stronger safety protections and was tested by external evaluators.

Those are vendor-provided claims and evaluation results, not independent proof that every workload will be cheaper, safer or better. For buyers, the practical questions are plan eligibility, regional availability, model controls and how the model performs on their own code and workflows.
