Today we are announcing a partnership with the Department of Energy to build Genesis-Science-1, an open model for scientific research. GS1 is an American open-weight AI model and governed research harness designed to complete scientific computing workflows while preserving a reproducible record of its work. This model will be shaped by the people who know scientific work inside and out. @ENERGY is opening a contributor program for researchers, laboratories, universities, companies, and nonprofits, and we're speaking with infrastructure partners who can add training or evaluation capacity. There’s still lots of work ahead, and we hope you’ll help us build in the open, starting with GS1.
Arcee AI, DOE partner on trillion-parameter open-weight scientific model
AI Judge changed title after evaluation, original title: "Arcee AI, DOE to build trillion-parameter open scientific model"
The Genesis-Science-1 model features a public contributor program.
Open development gets an official federal nod
The move signals early government interest in backing transparent models rather than closed ones, though exact scale, timeline, and access details remain to be filled in as work progresses.
Next phase hinges on infrastructure partners and fresh contributors
Arcee is lining up extra training capacity while the DOE invites broader participation, leaving the project's pace and final capabilities dependent on how quickly that network comes together.
Many users celebrated Arcee AI's DOE partnership to build the open Genesis-Science-1 model with enthusiastic congratulations, while a few objected to potential government oversight limiting true openness.

Big things are coming. Today, we are announcing a new open model program to build a 1T-parameter-class model for open science, and we will be inviting researchers, engineers, institutions, and partners to contribute. As an AI researcher, scientist, and longtime supporter of open source, I cannot begin to express how exciting it has been to watch this come together. This is an opportunity to accelerate scientific progress, strengthen American leadership in open AI, support our national labs, and build something that can benefit researchers around the world. This is a dream come true. There is much more to come.
We've been quiet since Trinity-Large-Thinking came out in early April - but for good reason! I'm excited to finally share that not only have we @arcee_ai joined the DOE's Genesis Mission, but to also announce the development of Genesis-Science-1.

We're starting to see early forms of how the government can support development and use of open models in the US. Congrats to my friends at Arcee for this big step.

very aligned with my favorite quote from @drfeifei, i like this :)

Very exciting initiative! Glad to see the US gov supporting the developement of open scientific models!!

Later today, the DOE will open an application portal for institutions, nonprofits, and companies who wish to contribute to GS1. From niche data sources to evaluations, if you want to help shape this model for your scientific workloads please apply! http://arcee.ai/science-1
I've long believed accelerating science is the single greatest lever we have for the future of humanity. Nothing compounds like discovery. Proud to watch this one take shape. Genesis-Science-1.

damn man -> open lab -> trillion parameters model -> open effort across institution -> automating science work hard to get cooler than this

I’ve been extremely impressed by how fast the DOE moves. I’ve never seen a government agency move with such vigor and tenacity to get something through on such an accelerated timeline. They know how pivotal these next years will be, and they’re not messing around.
Open U.S made models matter. Great to see important collaboration with U.S GOV from @arcee_ai

What a decade these next months will be.
@stochasticchasm Based af this looks awesome
GS1 is being developed as a Trillion-Parameter-Class model for accelerating high-difficulty scientific workflows. It will be initialized from our next generation of Trinity models. And It will be open weights. http://arcee.ai/blog/genesis-science-1
