I think people are generally telling on themselves / projecting with this type of stuff. Anthropic’s premise chain seems pretty clear - RSI and AGI/ASI will arrive regardless, so good people should get there first because the stakes are unimaginably high. You can dispute any link in that chain but imo everything they’ve done is consistent with their team genuinely believing it.
