TLDR

Microsoft apologized for earlier posts that may have caused confusion and said it has no affiliation with a cryptocurrency token promoted in connection with $MSFT stock. The company says the token uses Clippy branding without permission. It stressed that $MSFT is its legitimate stock ticker, but the token is neither Microsoft stock nor an ownership stake, and said it will pursue appropriate legal action to remove the token and related materials.

@MicrosoftWe apologize for our previous posts, which may have caused confusion. To be clear, Microsoft does not support, endorse, sponsor, or authorize any cryptocurrency or crypto-related token. We are aware of a cryptocurrency token being promoted in connection with $MSFT stock, including the unauthorized use of the Clippy brand and Microsoft-related intellectual property. Microsoft has not authorized, sponsored, endorsed, or granted permission for the creation, promotion, or use of any cryptocurrency token associated with Clippy, Microsoft, or $MSFT. While $MSFT is the legitimate ticker for Microsoft’s publicly traded stock, this cryptocurrency is not Microsoft stock, does not represent ownership of Microsoft, and does not represent any share, interest, or portion of Microsoft Corporation. The use of our ticker, intellectual property, branding, imagery, or references to our securities in connection with an unauthorized cryptocurrency may create a misleading impression of affiliation or endorsement. We are taking this matter seriously and will pursue appropriate legal action to have the unauthorized token and related materials removed. For the avoidance of doubt, Microsoft does not endorse or have any affiliation with this token, its creators, or any related cryptocurrency project. Please rely only on Microsoft’s official channels for information regarding our brands, products, securities, and intellectual property.
@tomwarrenis everything ok @Microsoft? It looks like Microsoft's X account has been taken over, as it has linked to a Clippy crypto scam 😬 https://www.theverge.com/news/1003892/microsoft-x-twitter-account-clippy
