Today we're introducing Bionic - LM Studio's agent, made for open models. A few months ago open models have crossed an inflection point with Kimi K2.6, and recently with GLM 5.2. LM Studio Bionic is built for this moment. Using open models is a viable and obvious decision for better costs and ownership over your AI stack. In this update we're introducing our Agent: Bionic. It excels at document based work as well as coding. You can ask it to create and edit documents: slides, docs, sheets. Redline contracts, fill out forms, and more. For code - it can do anything you would expect from a coding agent, and we expect to make it even better. Importantly, Bionic is natively local - true to the core of LM Studio, but it also introduces OSS frontier cloud models for the first time. We're shipping realtime on-device voice transcription in Bionic using Voxtral from our friends at @MistralAI. We're running it using the excellent ExecutTorch runtime, totally on device. For us sending voice data to the cloud just doesn't make sense, and luckily local models are plenty good for this task Fun fact: about mid way into the project, we switched to developing Bionic exclusively using Bionic itself. This is the first version and we have so much more in store. Let us know how you like it!
