Open-sourcing Haiku 5 turns every Anthropic critic into a distribution channel overnight. The labs that give away the smaller model always win mindshare on the frontier one.
I was asked “If you could do one thing at Anthropic, what would you do that would help the company” I said: Anthropic should open source Haiku 5, next week. I just finished a call with two engineers at Anthropic. We had a civil, great conversation. I gave this for free and I was happy that they said “I don’t blame you if you didn’t say, we did not offer to pay you for your time”. I was happy to help and will talk to anyone at these large AI companies. Today these engineers found out I was not hostile nor anti-them. I have hope there will be more dialogue. I’ll keep you posted.
I am getting good feedback from my recommendation with the two Anthropic engineers. It is always interesting to me that somehow I vibe with folks that work in the hands on building than the c-suite folks. We shall see if they can tilt this to the betterment of the company and our country. I am praying for it.

@BrianRoemmele made a great suggestion to Anthropic engineers...make their lowest entry product open source. It allows market capture for those who wish to keep US info in the US (mostly), they can better moderate trends happening on the "open" platform, and will create an easy psychological upgrade to their other platforms.
