Tesla has switched the European name of its advanced driver-assistance system from “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” to “Tesla Assisted Driving” as it seeks broader regulatory clearance. The new label appeared on European pages including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Slovakia, Reuters reports. Tesla’s U.S. site still uses the old name.
The change follows discussions with Germany’s transport ministry. In an October 6 statement, the ministry called the FSD name “somewhat misleading” because the system does not perform the full driving task. It said the software can assist with accelerating, braking and steering, but the driver must stay attentive and remains fully responsible.
German Transport Minister Steffen Bilger said he would push for the system to be approved across Europe after talks with Tesla in September. TechCrunch reports that Tesla offered the new name during those discussions.
Broader approval is still pending. Reuters said eight EU countries already allow the system and Slovakia was expected to become the ninth. An EU-wide vote was delayed from October until at least December while countries including France conduct further testing.
