He doesn’t work for them, but he likely has or has had some paid partnership with them, because they’ve invited him onto their campus in the past for certain events, pre-release model testing, etc.
Not because he’s an actually intelligent or strong engineer, but because he has a following on YouTube as one of those weird, spazzy, “dev influencer” guys who shrieks about frontend dev tooling all day for clicks.
OpenAI recognized that he has a following, so they invite him to things and give him perks (and have probably paid him outright) to curry favor with him so that he says nice things about them on his YouTube channel, and he totally takes the bait and does what he’s told.
Because of this, he now likes to pretend he’s part of “in crowd” in the AI space, but he’s really just a paid plant with no AI research knowledge/background whatsoever. He just plays with the models as they’re released like a cat plays with toys.
He once famously beclowned himself by making a video about GPT-5 release, in which he got all dramatic and said “this model totally broke me” lol.
Days later he had to walk this back when the rest of the world got around to reviewing it and playing with it, and came to the (correct) consensus that the model release was a flop, and we’d reached the point of diminishing returns with LLMs.
So in conclusion, he is a total shill, and you can safely ignore everything he says.
