Experts Compare AI Safety to Other Industries
Replies from Miles Brundage and Andrew Trask address scrutiny and spending levels.
Miles Brundage said AI is a very immature industry compared to others and that leaders think they are creating something more dangerous than any other industry. Andrew Trask said safety is solved for microwaves, shoes, and pencils and that is the level wanted for AI. He noted safety is not solved for nuclear, aircraft, pharmaceuticals, or automobiles and that those carry enormous direct and indirect costs. Trask also said corporate safety spend measures regulatory capture, centralization of power, and stifled innovation rather than progress toward safety.
