TLDR
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5 on September 22 as the first model in its 5.5 family. The company says it performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work and costs about 40% less than Opus 5 for typical workloads at default settings. List prices fall to $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, while cache reads drop 60% to $0.20 per million. Anthropic also claims more than 30% faster output and is applying stricter cybersecurity, biology and anti-distillation safeguards to the model.
