Positive users like OpenAI's focus on using AI to accelerate research and real-world applications, while negative users call the claims scams and compare them to overhyped failures like Tesla.
OpenAI is "entering the third phase. The economy is beginning to reshape around AI."
- The first phase of OpenAI was about doing research toward AGI - The second phase began when the research became relevant to the real world and OpenAI became a product company
Their goal for 2028 is to build steerable, accountable AI researchers that can increasingly automate scientific research, helping humans solve alignment and navigate the post-AGI transition.
Sounds like we're now taking the final steps towards AGI/Post-AGI.

OpenAI: "By March 2028, OpenAI thinks a significant fraction of its research may be done by AI systems working alongside and in collaboration with its human researchers."
that's an incredibly weak statement by them
we already have models that accelerate research and there's already a significant fraction (close to 100%) of research being done by AI and humans in tandem
Sam Altman's new blog about OpenAI's future path says by March-2028 a significant fraction of its own research will be done by AI.
The path has 3 goals mainly: build an automated AI researcher, use that to speed up science and productivity, then give every person a personal AGI that can help with work, learning, coding, business, health paperwork, and decisions.

@kimmonismus Economy reshaping around AI = The economy is based on the AI bubble on promise it will eventually make profits.

@rohanpaul_ai How much you wanna bet this will be just like Tesla. Artificial intelligence will fall far short of what these criminals say it will do

@scaling01 Who knows, they might change it to March of 2027, but current AI systems still can't automate everything yet, and likely won't, since they are inherently unreliable in some capacity (especially when relying on their own "reasoning").

@rohanpaul_ai If you are in AI frontier lab, pivot to IPOmaxxing

@scaling01 This is more of their “it’s just a tool that won’t replace you” talk. Honestly it’s making me more bullish on Anthropic because they feel more AGI/ASI pilled. Still got faith in OpenAI tho, but not a fan of their change in rhetoric

@scaling01 They're already going significantly slower than they can, for safety reasons.
This combined with commute buildout delays keeps them 6-12 months behind what's possible.

@scaling01 "Steerable, accountable and connected to people" is the point.
They won't let it go off on its own even if it can.

@PawelJLisowski Hmm, good call with the IPO. However, id argue against open promisses. GPT-5.5 pro is a scientific beast

@kimmonismus I think we are getting close to IPO. If we went through all promises open ai/anth made over last 2 years, their success rate is not very high.

@kimmonismus It would be surprising if Anthropic and Google wasnt working on similar internal timelines.

@zephyr_z9 My internal plan is as follows
👇Details are as follows 👇 👇

@shaunralston @scaling01 Pre-IPO storytelling is its own genre. 'May' and 'significant fraction' give them two years of cover regardless of what ships.

@zephyr_z9 They know within a month lol

@scaling01 the team working on it probably fudged the numbers so they dont get laid off in a year lmao 😭

@scaling01 My guess this is for show, because too aggressive of an claim will have political implications

@scaling01 i mean you don’t expect them to say “the machines will be doing everything and we will just watch” do you? somehow i think that doesn’t go over too well with gov’t
