When Fable 5 is used for frontier LLM development, it does not notify the user and instead limits the model’s capabilities through methods such as prompt modification, steering vectors, and PEFT.
Anthropic estimated that this would affect approximately 0.03% of traffic.
The message to my own lab:
"Our lab will not sponsor any research based on Fable 5 models. In the future, we should even rethink any Claude model evaluation. IMO, excluding one model type would not hurt any solid research (if it is the case, then we probably choose the wrong topic to work on in the beginning). We should not fuel any evil companies like this."
