Update: people *think* this margin compression and capex decline is happening with Kimi K3. I disagree. It is bad for Western labs, but good for hardware capex bc capex benefits from multiple competing frontier labs.

thinking harder about this, the most likely outcome IMO: 1. strong compute shortages force cost-performance over capabilities 2. open source models continue to cross threshold of usefulness 3. more compute crunch, less revenue growth for closed models 4. frontier labs taper off https://twitter.com/menhguin/status/2045095256690135238

@menhguin I'd never invest in a Chinese company as a foreigner, but I am happily going to back up the truck and buy semis when I'm done buying my neighbor's house. This competition is soooo good for hardware like insanely good.

@menhguin Hardware sales will benefit immensely from local deployments. Datacenter only would have resulted in fewer sales since the utilization would be higher.
