I'm afraid we've entered a dark era in AI model development and access.
Theo Browne, T3 Stack creator, argues AI model development and access have entered a dark era
Developer Victor Taelin predicted a revolutionary shift from Browne.
Users react to warnings of a dark era in AI model development by either advocating open source and local models as the solution or describing conditions as even worse and deeply disappointing.

@theo Not really, open source will catch up soon, China will not care and launch to the public and US providers will have no choice but to release to the public or be left behind.

@theo That's why

@theo Don’t be afraid Theo, daddy’s here

@theo @DanielleFong it’s all dario’s fault

@theo Open source models will save us

@theo bladerunner tokensmugglers in 2027

@theo I feel like they have already been doing something similar to this… giving 5.5 to YouTubers before everyone else. Now, just YouTubers are not included in the early access and it’s a problem

@theo @Rot13E It actually started in August 2025, but you were all too busy looking down on relational users to notice.
We were the first targets. Now everyone else comes next.

@theo

@theo I hope Grok catches up. That’s our only chance.

@theo Man this era sucks, just give us fable so we can move on!

@theo Theo, but don't you think models at or above the level of mythos/gpt5.6 should be regulated in some way?
We seem to be at the start of the "this is actually dangerous" phase

The Kool Aid was going to turn sour eventually. Everyone was talking about exuberant abundance for all... but access to the best intelligence was always going to be gated for the most powerful and privileged. There was no reality on this timeline where existing power structures would just give access to anyone who wanted it...
All hope isn't lost, but it should be clear to everyone that if you want access, you're going to have to fight for it in the political arena. Supporting open source is a good idea too...

china has actually chance to catch up all thanks to major AI labs from USA can't make their model public and they can't get the feedback on their models all cause of gatekeeping
it's call because of one company decides to put their model as mythical god like creature

@theo please just lie and say it will be okay 😭😭😭

@theo The gap between the people who can use the best models and everyone else is becoming a competitive advantage but u know not everyone is in need of higher models so ☠️

@theo the era isn't dark, it's splitting in two. u.s. frontier is getting gated, but most top models by volume are already chinese. builders aren't sitting in the dark – they're routing around the gate

@julienzeroshot @theo hmm im smelling a ban on chinese models coming in this administration

@theo Its currently strange times, I wonder if the US government will formulate a fair release policy for new frontier AI models otherwise, it seems like they are choosing winners and creating a permanent underclass

@theo every ai tweet rn…lets come tg as a community to learn and build ai up so this doesn’t happen..im so done w the speculations and “ai is entering xyz” same thing happened w the tech bubble lmao
