Jason Liu, Instructor creator and OpenAI Codex DX engineer, requests user feedback on plugins and team workflows
The collected feedback will help guide internal platform improvements.
Positive users praise Codex plugins like Vercel and Figma for streamlining workflows and being highly useful, while negative users complain about bugs in subagents and missing Linux support.

@jxnlco i've never used a plugin. should I check it out?
codex users! two things i want feedback on:
are plugins actually making codex better? which ones, and what still feels broken? how are you using codex as a team?
drop examples and i’ll organize them for the team!

@jxnlco jason please for the love of god add support for multiple auths into the gmail plugin

@jakeottiger ack!

@jxnlco need bash in skills.

@backnotprop really?

the build macos and ios apps plugins are total game changers. really good (would be great to collab with apple to get their new bundles skills in too; xcrun agent install skills gives you a bundle).
i still worry that the skills and plugins take up too much of the context window, or at least you don't have insight into that, especially in the context of the management interface. i have like 10 or so plugins, and about 100 skills, from various projects, but it's really hard to see what's actually enabled, from where, and how that contributes to your context window for a given project. there doesnt seem to be a progressive disclosure of skills and plugins either (like everyone added for MCP in like jan/feb), so i feel like i need to micromanage plugins a bit and turn the rarely used ones off to avoid bloat. maybe this isn't actually the right solution, but i think the harness can make it a lot clearer to users what they should do with context and heavy plugin use, or what the harness already does on their behalf.

@jxnlco - This isn’t your fault but on Windows 10, I keep getting UTF-8 BOM errors
- Gmail plugin works but I switch to himalaya a lot bc it doesn’t feel like it’s pulling “all” messages, I can’t audit or trust it to actually pull a batch

@jxnlco @jakeottiger Lowkey would be goated if you could configure by project / thread. Set it and forget it 👀

@jxnlco Discord plugin please 🙏🏻 Ability to connect discord bot directly with codex app, not through openclaw.

@jxnlco Plugins are great but knowing which to use and when gets overwhelming. If it was able to be more proactive or autonomous with plugin selection and use, that would be great.

@jxnlco Yeah I like them. The only things broken that I found are just computer use and Chrome extension mistakes.
Also I'd really like to see the Chrome extension be accessible in Chrome instead of having to always go back to Codex

@jxnlco Two plugins caught my attention. 1. understand-anything can build a project's knowledge graph and make it easy to navigate through it. However, its performance and token-efficiency benefits still need to be evaluated.

@jxnlco Can you guys please make a quick tiny change. With skills that come from plug in, can you guys make it into some sort of drop down that’s relevant to the plug in? Instead it all says personal and bc there’s so many idk what from what anymore it’s chaotic.

@jxnlco I never bother with plugins
I never use codex as a team
Boom and boom

@jxnlco theyre good but when i tried the CLI i noticed that skill descriptions were being truncated due to the 2% context window limit

@jxnlco We built an internal marketplace for our team which hosts plugins containing skills. We are currently working on ideas like skill chaining, skill enforcement in certain PRs etc. One thing which I found lacking is telemetry in skill usage.

@jxnlco i just wanna be able to filter to only see OpenAI made ones.

@jxnlco I don't understand the combination of apps and codex plugins. I have an approved app but it's a developer tool so I have no use for the chatGPT store. I need skills attached to my mcp server.

@jxnlco it would be nice if codex could actually search the marketplace directly for tools to use and set up

@jxnlco It would be better if they were just skills(md files) rather than mcp.
