Reddit is tightening how people and software can access its platform, setting end dates for RSS feeds and its remaining public API while further narrowing who can still use Old Reddit.
The company says it will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13, 2026. Reddit said RSS had become “a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse,” prompting the shutdown. For moderators who used RSS-based alerts, Reddit is recommending Discord Relay as an alternative for some workflows. But the company also said there is no replacement for RSS feeds used outside a community a person moderates.
Reddit also says its public API transition will continue into early 2027. Developers that have not registered approved apps will begin losing API access on January 12, 2027, and Reddit says all remaining public API access will end in March 2027. The change is expected to affect tools that relied on programmatic access to Reddit conversations.
Old Reddit is being restricted further as well. In the next few months, Reddit says users will need to be logged in and must have used Old Reddit within the previous six months to keep browsing with the classic interface. Logged-in moderators will still be able to use Old Reddit without meeting that recent-use requirement.
Reddit says the tighter Old Reddit rules build on an earlier login change that already reduced scraping and automated abuse, but still left the older interface available to any logged-in account, including ones with no prior Old Reddit use.
The moves continue Reddit’s broader push to control access to its user-generated data as it tries to limit unsanctioned scraping and automated collection.
