More than 400 linked apps and domains conceal sexually abusive deepfake tools
Some apps pose as pet portrait generators or workout coaches, but can show deepfake tools under certain conditions.
TLDR
Researchers traced the network from thousands of explicit deepfake ads on Facebook and Instagram to apps in Apple’s and Google’s stores. Depending on how they’re accessed, the apps can display an ordinary AI feature or a web interface that generates sexual images and videos using uploaded photos. Apple removed 19 apps after being contacted; Google had already removed the majority before it was contacted.
