Microsoft is making its smallest Xbox controller for players who want something easier to carry. The Verge reports that the Xbox Nano measures just over five inches long, shorter than most smartphones, and is intended for younger players, smaller hands and gaming away from the couch.
Despite the smaller shell, the controller keeps the standard Xbox button layout. Xbox Wireless connects it to Xbox consoles, while Bluetooth supports phones, tablets and PCs. Microsoft has not treated portability as a reason to strip out the familiar controls.
A rechargeable battery and a new shortcut button
The Nano uses a rechargeable battery instead of the AA batteries or separate charging pack required by most standard Xbox controllers. Microsoft also added a programmable Action Button that can trigger screenshots, gameplay capture and other Xbox shortcuts.
Its final design is simpler than the version that leaked earlier in 2026. Those images showed a small screen for cloud or console connectivity, but that display is not part of the shipping model. The rear USB-C port and pairing button remain.
