UPI merchant fee notification likely, Economic Times reports

The Economic Times said on September 11, 2026, that a notification on UPI merchant discount rates (MDR) for businesses was likely to be issued soon. It reported a fee of 40 basis points, equivalent to 0.4% of a transaction’s value. Citing sources, it said the issuing bank would keep 40% of the fee, while payment app providers such as PhonePe or Google Pay and the acquiring bank would get 30% each.
