Banks Reject SoftBank OpenAI Valuation; Germany Holds LLMs Liable; Warren Targets SEC, SpaceX
Many users saw banks rejecting SoftBank's high OpenAI valuation and OpenAI weighing price cuts as clear signs of a fragile hype-driven market, while a few praised Anthropic's steadier approach.

Bad things apparently come in 4’s; tweet below must be updated with the breaking @wsj news that OpenAI is contemplating drastic price cuts, which is surely a sign of weakness.

@GaryMarcus She didn't wrote "retail". Basically, what she wrote means ordinary people will pay for that anyway - either via direct loses or as taxpayers when bailing out "investors".

@AlKoUA yes, i could have stated that better

@GaryMarcus

@GaryMarcus Anthropic seems to be the only lab not constantly putting out fires. My bet is the SpaceX and OpenAI IPOs are going to be a disaster too much hype, too much baggage. Anthropic plays the long game and that's exactly what wins. Real winner.

@GaryMarcus Good news. But how will bankers support Open Ai IPO ?

@GaryMarcus Banks won't pay SoftBank's price. Berlin's holding LLMs liable. The AI bull case was always this fragile: it needed irrational capital and regulators asleep.

@GenHeres123 @GaryMarcus Anthropic may have just lit a really bad fire under themselves. Current sentiment i am feeling is that trust in Anthropic is wiped

@GaryMarcus It's weird to think that when you train an AI to hack computers, your company can be held liable when it hacks computers.

Anthropic faced a binary. Either open Mythos fully and the moment someone uses it to design a bioweapon or execute a serious cyberattack, and every government, institution, and enterprise customer walks. Or restrict access, take the trust hit from individual users, and keep the institutional credibility intact. Losing Reddit sentiment is recoverable. Losing the trust of governments and Fortune 500 clients is not.

@GaryMarcus Germany's rule is what robotics teams live with: you ship it broken, you're liable.
So reliability isn't optional, it's survival.
AI companies are just getting that memo.

@GaryMarcus it's weird to agree with warren lol

@GaryMarcus Let's keep this good train rolling! I say automatic waterboarding if you're caught using a chatbot

@GaryMarcus It's been a good day!

@GaryMarcus Banks said no thanks, Trump said yes please.
Art of the Deal? or Fart of the Deal?

@GaryMarcus Scam Altman is the manipulative hacker scum wannabe Mr robot Elliot scum of the earth that people once loved and given power and money fast then suddenly the world to realize the scam and take it back from his scummy hands

@GaryMarcus At present AI is most widely adopted by fraud rings..

@GaryMarcus ITS ANOTHER PUMP AND DUMP. BECK IS A HACKER AND HUMAN TRAFFICKER. THAT IS THE ACTOR THAT PLAYS ELON MUSK

@GaryMarcus @WSJ The Red Queen sends her greetings to Sam Altman.

@GaryMarcus @WSJ funny how drastic price cuts reads as weakness not strategy
