Training compute for models shared free on Hugging Face Hub estimated at $991 million in GPU rental costs

Hub Dollars estimates that renting the GPUs used for the final training runs of 75 official model families shared free on the Hugging Face Hub would cost $991 million. Its 10th-to-90th-percentile range is $816 million to $1.35 billion. About $502 million of the central estimate comes from developers’ published compute figures; the calculation excludes about 900,000 community fine-tunes, along with datasets and salaries.
