Developer `@Th0rgal_` reverse-engineers the Oura Ring 5 to stream accelerometer data for real-time gesture control
The project accesses an undocumented live data streaming feature.
Positive users praise the developer's reverse engineering of the Oura Ring 5 accelerometer for computer control as cool and inspiring, while negative users object with insults, calls to avoid it, or criticism of the marketing.

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring wait this is actually this thing's true purpose. It can unleash full tony stark

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring You now need to buy a 2nd ring and put one on each hand and invert 90 degrees and make a racing wheel

@unbound_dev @ouraring Opus and Codex mainly + https://github.com/AEON-7/Qwen3.6-27B-AEON-Ultimate-Uncensored-DFlash running on my DGX-Spark for some sensitive reverse engineering steps

@thethiny @ouraring Oh yeah and the right hand could also be used for the gearbox

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring A device like this exists and they never thought to use it this way?
Are they fully autistic?

@pattssun @ouraring Please do! Prs appreciated https://github.com/th0rgal/Open_oura

@we_arent_here @ouraring And from what the IMU advertises we should be able to do much more. There is a gyroscope too, but the software is preventing me (for now) to access its data

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring imagine this idea connected to a DAW or live data base of instruments you could loop for music production. would be crazy

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring Smooth! I made something similar using a Leap Motion for a hackathon. Yours is very polished by comparison. https://youtu.be/drlyZnRpq6E

@RichardDaffyAI @ouraring But then how would I be able to control the real drone?

@GundolfPet58154 @ouraring My poc didn't need it but yes, it's fairly easy to estimate position from acceleration. You estimate gravity, which gives you the orientation (pitch/roll only, you can't get yaw without a gyro), project your coordinates and integrate twice (you may need some drift control too)

the prompt i would word vomit to LLM
claude i am inspired by the theremin and want to use the feature to stream live accelerometer data in the @ouraring to build a live looping conductor DAW or to play instruments in a loop inside an existing DAW. Do some research with sub agents lets brainstorm how to build the architecture that will allow me to play instruments and create loops by just moving my hand in the air in a specific way using this feature. what would be the best practices for this? think about how this could revolutionize the music industry and DJ’ing around the world. Theoricallty you could have a ring in the left hand and right hand that each do something different. moving my hands to the beat i want, the height could be the volume or key or harmony. theorize how many different ways this could work with 1 ring vs 2 rings and everything we would need to do to allow me to play music and change instruments with just moving my hands while wearing the rings

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring someone gonna use that for pr0n.

@Th0rgal_ @ouraring And a ring on your feet for the pedals 😂😂

@ardchain @ouraring It's ai

@FreakinFrick @ouraring yes sir

@kyduffy @ouraring Will work on my drone

@thethiny @Th0rgal_ @ouraring Oura toe rings 💀
