Pixel 11 Pro XL vs. Pixel 8 Pro: the case for upgrading

Google's Pixel 8 Pro still has years of software support ahead, but Android Authority's latest hands-on comparison argues that the Pixel 11 Pro XL finally offers enough practical improvements to make a three-generation upgrade feel substantial.

Reviewer Stephen Radochia spent about a week with the newer phone. He describes its 6.8-inch display as noticeably brighter and more vibrant, and says the Tensor G6 model ran smoothly without overheating in normal use. Gaming performance remains a qualification rather than the phone's strength.

Camera and battery gains are the clearest changes

The Pixel 11 Pro XL keeps Google's triple-camera approach but produces more saturated default images, according to the comparison. Its larger telephoto sensor and faster Night Sight processing are the improvements most likely to matter to frequent photographers.

Battery life is the bigger separation. Radochia says the Pixel 11 Pro XL's roughly 5,100mAh battery regularly lasted two days and could stretch into a third. His three-year-old Pixel 8 Pro still survived a full day, but no longer matched its earlier endurance.

Google's newer software features also favor the current flagship. The review highlights improved Live Translate, better cross-app AI integration and a voice-drafting tool called Rambler. Some features may reach older Pixels, but their timing and exact form are uncertain.
