@kitten_beloved Idk man the kind of people to be swayed into hiding the weird parts of themselves by public pressure also seem like the kind of people who are not going to be effective in ai work. If you have more palatable voices, where are they?
Critics argue unconventional lifestyles threaten the AI sector's credibility.
Many users condemned AI leaders for unconventional moral frameworks and lifestyles they saw as degenerate or hypocritical, while a few praised the critical framing of those issues.

@Aella_Girl I find this framing of "hiding weird parts of themselves" very offputting, and is a good example of the disconnect I'm talking about
Normal people understand there are trade-offs in living one way or another and choose accordingly to achieve the kind of life they want

@eigenrobot I keep thinking about Lomez’s point here - I naturally appreciate eccentricity - but at a certain point one’s oddness becomes a valid reason to ignore their commentary

Also I wanna be clear that Ronny and I were not directly working on AI safety. We just were very weird, and then saw a gap nobody was filling and tried that. You're not complaining that ai safety people are adopting weirdness, you're complaining that weird people are adopting ai safety

@Aella_Girl No I don't have good nominees for people with more palatable worldviews to formulate the machine morality influencing all of humanity and guiding our future
Even if I did it's not exactly my choice to make, but I get to live with the consequences

@hyperdiscogirl I bet the Mormons would be up for it

I don't think it's controversial to say that AI in general has been inhibited by the fact many of its adherents and champions are sketchy people who make normies uncomfortable BEFORE they start telling people how AI is going to make everyone's job obsolete, put them all in the welfare line, and oh it might come alive and eat your fucking children in front of you while Will Stancil's Honda is chased by eerily quiet Teslas. Minimum Overdrive if you will

@eigenrobot These retarded delights will have retarded ends

@kitten_beloved good luck getting highly conventional people to put themselves on the forefront of saying an emerging technology is going to radically undo society

@kitten_beloved well, high openness tech hippies in sf are always going to be the first to everything that’s big — and a bunch of nonsense that doesn’t pan out too
it’s not bad if they’re at the frontier, but this tech definitely needs to get handed off to the grownups

@lovabler0gue Who is going to make them

@kitten_beloved This is what happens when the only binding thread in your community is giga high openness to experience

@kitten_beloved I've been blackpilled abt the absolute degeneracy among tech peeps. I mean levels of degenerate behavior that make the avg hedonist cringe 😖.

@nlpnyc @kitten_beloved That's what ppl said about being gay. "Why are you rubbing it in our faces" and the ppl are just posting photos of their everyday life kissing their bf etc

@Aella_Girl @kitten_beloved The "palatable voices" have been mostly chased out of the industry. Anyone who has children to protect or a family that needs stability or who longs for a community of stable, careful, decent people has been repulsed by this sort of behavior.

@kitten_beloved and their grubby little fingers are on the moral weights of LLM's that are performing micro-hypnosis on people at-scale everytime we chat with the models

@kitten_beloved that lomez dunk on hanania about not understanding the psychology of normal people can be applied elsewhere

@eigenrobot You mean the people who take Humean metaethics to its end point are enslaved to their passions?
You’re telling me this now for the first time.

It's been especially funny watching people flip their shit over some models being declared ITAR export limited. The USAF was using AI to significantly accelerate strike planning and op-tempo against Iran not a few months ago. The government is putting warheads on foreheads with this technology and apparently it's a big fucking shock that the government takes a dim view of exporting this tech to potential enemies, so it's not really surprising that they can't comprehend why the government isn't thrilled by the leadership of these companies also being fucking wierdoes

@kitten_beloved Hey man, what’s your problem with what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own *checks notes* communal orgies coordinated via Twitter . . . but also, have you seen the social network? We really need to cut back on our screen time, for the betterment of our mental health.
