Google unveils Connected Apps Platform preview for Gemini and Search

Google announced its Connected Apps Platform on Oct. 28, 2026, as a developer preview intended to bring more third-party services into Gemini and Search, Abner Li reports for 9to5Google. Li writes that creating Connected Apps had previously required working closely with Google. Chethan Rao at Android Authority reports that the preview is initially limited to US-based developers. Google plans to open access in phases and expand to more developers and regions, Rao writes.

According to 9to5Google, developers need a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using AppFunctions APIs. They can then register, test and submit integrations through the new Google Connected Console, choosing Gemini, Search or both. The console also lets developers monitor traffic, latency and error rates and control brand identity.
