Positive users praise the Hermes AI Agent Framework powered by Tmux for enabling seamless multi-pane sessions and major productivity gains, while negative users call it overhyped larp or the worst option versus alternatives like i3 or Hypr.

@DavidOndrej1 try herdr, its like tmux, but agent first: terminal agent multiplexer and not another gui wrapper!
https://herdr.dev/

@DavidOndrej1 use tmux + ttyd + tailscale also gives you remote-control and multiplayer system

@DavidOndrej1 💯 But pimp it a little with a couple of tmux plug-ins.
Set your tmux prefix to ` and add vim bindings to navigate through terminals easily.
Here's my minimum conf to do this: https://github.com/mfiumara/dotfiles/blob/master/tmux/.tmux.conf

2026 Recommendation:
✅ Terminal purists / Heavy server users → Herdr (top choice) or stick with Tmux (the old classic).
✅ GUI lovers / Visual workflow → Orca (Electron beauty)
✅ Best overall for AI coding → Herdr (highest performance-to-weight ratio right now)
✅ Popular combo: Herdr (for Agent management) + Tmux (for regular server sessions)

@DavidOndrej1 Yo Ondrej, check my tmux config

@DavidOndrej1 Whats the diff from tmux and having multiple terminals set up next to each other?

@DavidOndrej1 our lord and savior https://github.com/gpakosz/.tmux

@DavidOndrej1 Or do not learn anything and use https://zellij.dev

@DavidOndrej1 do you use any of the multiplexer features (ssh, session detach, reattch, etc) or you just use it for split panes?
If for split panes, Ghostty will serve you and your followers better, with a easier learning curve. And when you forget the hotkey you can just drag and drop.
tmux is awesome though.

@DavidOndrej1 I am using a Windows Server 2025 box with multiple Claude Code instances, each with /remote-control enabled. I can RDP if I need to and control everything from my phone. I know it's weird but it works for me.

@DavidOndrej1 Even better: learn how to use tmux within cmux, trust me. It’s like AI Inception

@DavidOndrej1 Tmux combines windows management with session persistence. I cleaner approach is zmx(session management) or ghostty/cmux/calyx for window management

@DavidOndrej1 No thanks. I'll just use a coffee cup with chat bubbles over it instead of 10 DISGUSTING terminal windows.

@DavidOndrej1 agreed 🦊🤘 tmux is awesome for pentesting and sys admin stuff. customizable, multiple shells + detach session is very helpful.
tmux = terminal multiplexer you run it in your terminal it is not a "terminal"
ghostty + tmux + neovim is a nice combo

@DavidOndrej1 And if you want to throw tmux out the window at any point, try switching to Herdr or Zellij.

@DavidOndrej1 Eye drops are legit. No one talks about the toll on the eyes due to constant screen usage

@albustime @DavidOndrej1 yes! tldr: herdr is not an app, does not give you a replacement terminal app or gui. it runs in your existing terminal like tmux, while having same user experience and mouse as first citizen even if it’s tui. remote or local.

@DavidOndrej1 Is it really worth it over just using the default Mac terminal?

@Michaelzsguo @DavidOndrej1 My computer, but especially my terminal, is incredibly personal and powerful, and I wouldn’t want to expose access to it.
The second use case in ur quote is actually something I would like to try, but multiple users collaborating on the same session just feels messy to me.

@DavidOndrej1 what must I be doing with tmux that I cannot do with multiple panes in iTerm 2? Asking for a friend.
