Gemini Personal Intelligence starts rolling out on Android Auto; cars with Google built-in to follow

Opt-in does not necessarily mean making a fresh choice in the car. 9to5Google reports that an existing Personal Intelligence setting in the phone’s Gemini app carries over to Android Auto. Otherwise, users need to turn it on in Gemini settings, Android Authority reports. TechCrunch reports Google’s statement that users can choose which apps to connect and turn the feature off at any time.

Availability has other limits. Android Authority reports that the feature is restricted to eligible personal Google accounts for people 18 or older and is unavailable in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the UK and Nigeria. Workspace business, enterprise and education accounts are unsupported, the outlet says. According to Google’s explanation quoted by 9to5Google, navigation, music, calls and questions still work without Personal Intelligence, but the answers are not tailored.
