Posts on X are circulating screenshots that appear to show Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 identifying itself as Claude, including one image highlighted by Paul Graham reposting Sauers and another shared by voooooogel. The screenshots appear to show the model answering a basic identity prompt by naming Anthropic's assistant instead of Kimi. That is enough to make people look twice. On its own, it does not prove what model sits underneath or how the behavior happened.

I am honestly not sure if I believe that, wouldn't they just fine-tune to avoid the model to spill the beans after the first question?
There’s a large grain of salt!🧂 Kimi is still calling itself Claude.
The community note is false - this was on Kimi’s own website and using the k3 model. Added the evidence here:

If I worked at Anthropic I’d probably tweet something like “the difference between Claude and Kimi is Claude doesn’t call itself Kimi”
