SecurityWeek reports that the US Treasury sanctioned Anibal Alexander Canelon Aguirre, whom Treasury describes as the alleged engineer of malware used in ATM jackpotting attacks linked to Tren de Aragua. Seven alleged associates and two Mexico-based companies were also designated. Treasury says reported losses from jackpotting attacks across the US exceeded $40 million across more than 1,500 attacks as of August 2025.
