He's right tho -- Gemini is a GREAT workhorse model. It doesn't show up on benchmarks because benchmarks are terrible. But it's the best for its price point on many real world tasks, e.g. large-scale doc searches Benchmark-maxxing destroys models, and Google was guilty of it before, glad they're not doing it now
Sundar Pichai Flops On Gemini Agentic Coding Questions As Alphabet Stock Drops
Many users faulted Sundar Pichai for stumbling on Gemini agentic coding questions and blamed Google bureaucracy for slowing AI releases, viewing both as signs of weak leadership behind the Alphabet stock drop.

@firstadopter he’s a public company ceo. that’s about as good of an answer as he can give without saying something dumb like “we will shock the world”
@firstadopter The stock didn't tank due to his response here. It's down on 2027 capex estimates
@firstadopter I think he indicated they wanted to release a new model once a month which is pretty ambitious
@JackFarley96 @firstadopter Yes, and he specifically said they needed the Gemini 4 base model (and its parameter size) in order to accomplish that. A pretty transparent response and a signal that 3.5 Pro will not be SOTA. So a clearer and more honest answer than Tae is giving him credit for
@firstadopter You’re missing the entire plot my man.
@firstadopter Sundar’s been great for the stock over the years but how much more evidence do we need that he’s simply not up to the task of leading G in the AI era
@firstadopter GOOGL is a secular short here just as it was at $130/share.
@firstadopter I remember a very similar market selloff of $GOOG in Q1, 2025 when their Bard AI didn't meet expectations. I bought the stock for less than half of today's price. If it keeps dropping, I will buy some more
@firstadopter likely down on rising Capex as usual though
@firstadopter Last year I started realizing that Google cannot be bothered with small minded discussions like these
@firstadopter Just because you are an Nvidia permabull does not mean that you have to rant about Google. :p
@jigarjianari @firstadopter Because Gemini is shit and google cares more about prostituting themselves out to anthropic rather than going all in on DeepMind.
@firstadopter So in short: Look Doug, you know, the vibe at the frontier is dynamic. And you know, everything is well. You know? 🤷♂️
@firstadopter You have a lot of anger built up. When has Google ever been about short term dominance?
@firstadopter The tank came immediately after the capex guide
@firstadopter LLM is a commodity - Gemini is first in use cases that actually generates money. Who gaf about niche coding? Retail was the main driver of search revenue growth, no other LLM can say this
@firstadopter Have you considered they don’t need a frontier model to monetize across YT Search Maps and all their other distribution. Having a good scalable cheap image model means more to their business than multi step agentic workflows
@firstadopter What’s he supposed to tell you? “We don’t really see the point in competing in agentic coding but are forced to do so anyways because of the retarded algorithms moving our stock price on a daily basis” Look at the YOY cloud growth…
@dolores_capital He should have used Gemini.
