Cooling AI chips in space with aluminum radiators
Space-based cooling is easier, Elon Musk argues, estimating solar panels would cover about five times the radiator area.
TLDR
Musk estimates an aluminum radiator pointed away from the Sun could shed about 1,300 watts per square meter, versus roughly 250 watts per square meter generated by solar panels. He expects the panels to make up most of a satellite's mass. The post he replied to calls cheap transport of large amounts of mass into space the main obstacle. Another post argues that a vacuum makes cooling harder and doubts space data centers will happen.
