Only one chart matters now for who wins the ASI race, and China's leading it. Intelligence now = algorithms * GPUs * data * energy. We thought algorithms would save us, but increasingly clear that was cope. The Trump administration has opened the floodgates on GPUs. China has much more data than the US, collected more centrally, and the Chinese don't have a word for privacy. And then, there's energy — here there's simply no contest, and the gap keeps growing.
Lindy founder Flo Crivello argues China leads the US in the ASI race due to massive energy and data advantages
China's electricity output has reached over 9,000 terawatt-hours.
Many users reacted negatively to claims of China leading the ASI race with energy and data advantages, calling it too late for the US due to self-defeating political choices and handing over the lead.

America needs to climb the Kardashev scale or get surpassed.

@beffjezos @progfunfoam We have chosen “get surpassed”

@Altimor If it comes down to energy it’s China vs. Elon Musk.

@beffjezos @Altimor And I really hope you haven't pinned too much of your pride to the laughable notion that the United States is generally good at things or well-regarded by other nations, @beffjezos. I'm no patriot—I tend to agree with the sentiment that patriotism is a refuge for scoundrels.

@beffjezos @Altimor do you suppose @beffjezos is aware that acceleration of his sort will be fatal? Not all accelerations are good, you know.

@Altimor What's the path to the West winning?

@Altimor For as long as we have one party fucking with renewables and another interfering with gas we are hosed
No matter what you want to build your capex is at risk every election cycle
We are truly cursed

@Altimor I love this post. It brought a smile to my face with its child like simplicity. No @altimor doesn’t work that way.

@beffjezos China Is too far ahead

@beffjezos Nuclear is something many data centers need for real juice. It’s too bad not nearly enough is being done there as yet.

@beffjezos a lot of Chinese coal plants...we need to think long term...think about that graph if we start the process of nuclear plants (should have 10 years ago)

@beffjezos America has the best at scale human operating system. An aerospace republic. If we can’t do it. And do it now, then the time might pass. And this lucky plant would fall to the mold.

@Altimor I'd add talent as a fifth multiplier.

@beffjezos Practically, what would this look like to you if we actually started climbing the scale. Let’s use a 30 year timeline from today.

@beffjezos The hour is very late.

@beffjezos You might as well give up man. The only shot we had was maintaining and widening the AI lead and we just handed that to China on a silver platter. Everything else is just a matter of time.

@beffjezos Extropic solves this

@beffjezos had Kevin O'Leary championed on building the electricity grid first, i would've been happy in supporting his data center.

@beffjezos The small nuclear modular reactors need to go online yesterday.

@beffjezos Then get me some quasicrystals
