Alibaba releases Qwen-Image-2.1, a 7B open-weight image model

The Decoder reports support for transparent images and up to 10 reference images on powerful consumer GPUs. The research license bars commercial use, which requires a separate Qwen license.

TLDR

The Decoder reports that Qwen-Image-2.1 generates and edits images, and highlights claims that the 7-billion-parameter model beats closed models in image generation. Commercial use requires a separate Qwen license rather than the research license.

One early user says they made an image using a prompt specifying messy hair, a collarbone tattoo and a lacy blouse. They also say that prompt was restricted on GPT Image 2.5 and Muse.

Context Window@ContextWindowAlibaba's Qwen just dropped Qwen-Image-2.1 — a 7B open-weight image model it says beats most closed models, and it runs on a consumer 3090. It generates editable transparent images (RGBA) natively from a single checkpoint. https://the-decoder.com/alibabas-open-weight-qwen-image-2-1-claims-to-beat-closed-models-in-image-generation-with-just-7-billion-parameters/20d
Zach@zach_sndrGPT image who? made this with new Qwen 2.1 Image model that rivals gave it arguably hard specifications like, - mixed race (Indian + latina) - messy hair + hair strands - tattoo along collar bone, with a mistake - lacy blouse (albeit the floral pattern wasn't prompted) can't believe this is a 7b model, this prompt was restricted on GPT image 2.5, Muse etc.. looks like Infiknit's local model integration is imminent20d
