If you’re already very good at product, you can immediately get better at product with this one weird trick: try to sound less clever when thinking about & discussing product insights and ideas.
This forces you to deal at the level of truth rather than clever proxies.
This is easier said than done, but definitely can be done.
Now, in 9 out of 10 companies, once you’ve made a good decision by thinking and discussing without feeling clever or sounding clever, by all means be super-clever and strategically abstruse as you present your proposal to other clever people and be sure to make them all feel very clever as you do this, whereupon they'll agree and approve your proposal in record time, each individual patting themselves on the back for their unique brand of cleverness.
