China Keeps Cranking - GLM 5.2 Just Dropped Hours Ago
It’s a very useful Opus 4.7 class model and looks very promising
With every passing hour open source narrows the lead
China will keep gaining while US is at a stand still with the Fable ban
Zhipu AI dropped GLM 5.2 on its Z.ai platform right as US restrictions hit Claude Fable 5, landing the new model at the top of BridgeBench with a perfect overall score and strong reasoning marks while claiming 300 tokens per second at roughly one-tenth the cost of leading rivals, though details stay limited to subscriber testing so far.

Early access runs through GLM Coding Plan tiers that start around $18 a month, with higher Pro and Max options available, and no sign yet of open weights or broad public API rollout.
The rollout arrived in the same window as the suspension of Claude Fable 5 access, though any direct competitive shift or longer-term effects stay unmeasured in the current reports.
Positive users hail GLM 5.2 as a genius open-source breakthrough challenging US dominance, while negative users dismiss its benchmark wins as hype disconnected from real products and accuse China of stealing tech.

@bridgemindai GLM 5.2 is the best Chinese open source model that we have tested.
Two days ago the US banned Claude Fable 5.
Yesterday China dropped GLM 5.2.
Today GLM 5.2 is #1 on @bridgebench BS at 100.0, and #1 on Reasoning at 42.8, beating Fable 5.
At 1/10th the cost and 300 tokens per second.
You cannot export control your way out of an open source race.
The ban didn't slow China down.
Unban Fable 5.

@YashasGunderia @bridgebench GPT 5.6 will drop next week. I expect it to be the top model if Fable is not on the market.

@iambokensha @bridgebench I think Fable will be back within the next 24 hours.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench Why doesn't your bench test frontier models don't even see GPT5.5 on there, obvious miss

@bridgemindai @bridgebench the timeline: ban US model → China drops a better one → it tops the leaderboard → everyone downloads it anyway. great strategy guys 👏

@bridgemindai @bridgebench You know even I was thinking that what happens when these type of models are opensource and higher intelligence, the race was of compute but now with these restrictions China could beat US. They need a comeback, maybe gpt?

@byrdo_metalhead @bridgebench Yup. I expect the U.S. to lift the export control today.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench It’s over for the US AI industrial complex

@JesusGodAndKing @bridgebench We have found that just because a model is "better" does not mean that it is better across all categories.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench I'm looking forward to testing GLM 5.2.
Lately my favorite Chinese model is Qwen 4.7 Plus on Opencode.
It has been the most capable that I have found yet.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench we need fable back
all models feel like so bad right now

@bindureddy Open source AI is the future.

@notjazii @bridgebench Agreed.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench 为什么你前两天还在说GLM 5.2又慢又蠢,构建出的游戏完全不可用,你是收钱了吗?作为一个中国人,我认为GLM一直很爱吹嘘,真正用起来还不如Sonnet 4

@bridgemindai @bridgebench insane

@bridgemindai @bridgebench @grok where do you download glm 5.2

@JamesHarris311 @bridgemindai @bridgebench I haven’t had a chance to research yet (daddy time on Sunday with my 2 daughters), do you know the specs needed to self-host it?

@bridgemindai @bridgebench I think so too. They banned it basically after market close. So before the market opens tomorrow, it will be back.

@bridgemindai @bridgebench Unban Fable 5 then china, iran and russia use it to produce bio weapons.
