We’ve built our own sandbox lifecycle management platform SPACE to serve all production traffic of Perplexity Computer. When we rolled out Computer in February, we ran it on one of the sandbox providers. Today, we serve 100% of the traffic on SPACE with 5x faster tail latency.

Not only are the benefits seen in cost. SPACE isolates the long running agent sessions from the sandbox running it, leading to a much more secure and controllable agent runtime.

And credentials are never stored in any of the SPACE runtimes directly; which is absolutely essential as agents access sensitive files in long running trajectories

The cost advantages are incredible, especially at the scale we operate in. Compared to Vercel, SPACE is 5x cheaper, leading to savings of tens of millions of dollars a year.
