GitHub announces 7.4 billion monthly commits, plans 4 million more CPU cores
The New Stack reports plans for 160 petabytes of storage and 50 Tb/s of network capacity.
TLDR
GitHub put monthly commits at 7.4 billion at its October 2026 Universe conference, compared with 2.9 billion it reported in August, according to The New Stack. GitHub attributes much of the growth to agent-driven demand. It plans more CPU cores, storage and network capacity, alongside a redesign separating compute from storage. The reported throughput gain comes from GitHub's internal benchmarks.
