I see it a bit differently. I think it’s going to bring investment in the space to a big screeching halt.

Markets can take a lot, but what they can’t take is uncertainty.

What does this mean? If you’re a company building on model X, do you need to explain to investors your contingency plan for that model being turned off?

Can you hire foreign nationals? If you’re a frontier lab, do you even publish benchmarks anymore? Or do you keep them under wraps lest you risk being turned off without notice?

Can you use Chinese models or will those get turned off as well? Will AI need to incorporate KYC with citizenship?

I don’t think this helps the space at all. It’s all downside.

What's absolutely ridiculous is the US restricting the use to Americans. If politicians in Europe, Japan and SK had any sense, they'd forbid the use of any of their critical tech (including service, thus effectively blocking any US semiconductor production and expansion) to Americans until access was reestablished for them.

@signulll on the other hand, i remember @DavidSacks saying the US wants to deploy the full AI stack to as many countries as possible to stay ahead of china.

this completely undermines that strategy.

@signulll Lol I hate the model with a passion, but with patience you can do very INSANE things with its. Very crazy things.

Its just not a very agreeable model so people can't get much out of it.
