The design of 787 window dimmers has been an obvious problem for nearly two decades. The fundamental problem is low response rate with insufficient visual indication it’s working.
But Boeing’s product line is frozen in time and these things improve glacially.
We often replace these electrical dimmable window push buttons on B787. They control the electrochromic windows... you press to tint the glass darker, but the change is slow. Many passengers keep pressing because they think it's not working. This wears the button out fast. Replacements aren't cheap.
