Two of Google's signature Googlebook features will continue working without a paid Google AI Pro subscription after the laptop's included year ends, Android Authority reports.

Alexander Kuscher, Google's senior director of product for laptops and tablets, clarified the policy during an Android Faithful podcast appearance. He said Magic Pointer and Rambler do not require AI Pro, describing the 12-month subscription bundled with the laptops as something that sits on top of the normal Googlebook experience.

Magic Pointer lets a user move the cursor to bring Gemini into the material visible on screen. Rambler applies Google's voice-processing tools to dictated notes, cleaning up speech that would otherwise arrive as a rough transcript. Both features have been central to Google's pitch for its first laptop line.

That makes the subscription boundary more than a billing detail. Googlebooks start at $899 and include one year of AI Pro, so buyers needed to know whether the machines would lose prominent functions in month 13. Kuscher's answer indicates that these two features belong to the baseline product rather than the temporary subscription perk.

The clarification is limited, however. Android Authority notes that Kuscher did not account for every AI-powered feature on Googlebook. Magic Pointer and Rambler are covered by his answer, but other extras may still depend on AI Pro once the included year expires.
