I love how every story in England makes it seem like they’re preparing for a trip to the sun. They’re playing in Dallas (air conditioned), Boston and New Jersey. Is this how they lost the war it was 82 degrees in Lexington?

Negative users ridicule the palm-cooling device for England World Cup players as unnecessary and mock the poster with insults like suggesting cold water or questioning their intelligence.

@jaycaspiankang If we ever get to host it again, it should be a winter tournament and all our matches should be 7pm kickoffs at Turf Moor

@jaycaspiankang the Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought on April 19, 1775 so it was likely cooler than 82 degrees
We explore this and other instances of the British not being clutch (in trivia format)

@jaycaspiankang @_SwantonBom Fail to plan plan to fail. In their most likely path they’ll play the QF in Miami and the Round of 16 in Mexico City

@jaycaspiankang Also, a fun game will be to look up the temp & humidity in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome or Athens (all in “ideal” host countries according to them) when they complain about the heat.
It routinely is hotter there in June or July than a good chunk of the venues in the US.

@jaycaspiankang The most popular topic in England is the weather.
Now, imagine that the weather has suddenly become the most important thing for your country's football prospects.
That sound you hear is an entire country getting hard at once.

@jaycaspiankang Look up the Battle of Monmouth. More British Soldiers died from heat stroke than in battle. To be fair, same for the Continental Army. Fought June 28, 1778.

@jaycaspiankang Good tweet but very funny to refer to it as ‘the war’ when as a Brit I think there are about 50 that I’d think of before the one you mean

@jaycaspiankang So there’s this thing that happens where you play more games if you go out the group stages and those will probably be in hot venues

@FilbenDemarty @jaycaspiankang A 40 degree game how scary! England has a mild climate. Most places in the US get both way hotter and colder then England throughout the year

@jaycaspiankang They are practicing in South Florida though, 5 mins from me. It’s 93 every day and humidity is crazy high. You sweat walking to your car.

@FilbenDemarty @jaycaspiankang again, your incredibly mild climate would be your demise since most of the us experiences far colder winter temperatures than burnley. this cuts both ways

@jaycaspiankang Yea but their home base is in KC. Ever been to KC in the summer? Pretty hot June-September.

@jaycaspiankang Football isn't played in summer in England you half-wit, and that's in England, not America, different climates. Americans are about to be under a tsunami of grief because you've neglected to the understand these problems also including the quality of pitches. Enjoy.

@jaycaspiankang maybe they don’t really believe we seriously air condition the stadium
@jaycaspiankang I want them to get a knockout round game vs Mexico at Azteca so f’ing bad

@sco_maher @jaycaspiankang We want the magic combination of lower-mild temperature, low visibility, and a playing surface vaguely reminiscent of Passchendaele. Under such circumstances, England shall triumph

@jaycaspiankang @herculezg I think there is more thought in European soccer to maximizing sport performance. More concern over the real effects of travel, heat, etc. than in the states. We prioritize the TV presentation and how to best commercialize sports -often sacrificing the performance quality.

@jaycaspiankang Idk the final in NJ will be scorching...it was for the CWC last year and they didn't learn any lessons about an afternoon start.

@jaycaspiankang the English media love reporting on the heat at a World Cup, it's one of the things they focus on most and it usually means "World Cup not hosted in Europe"

@stevefromlynn1 @jaycaspiankang Idk you might feel a tinge, just a tinge of shame that your country appears to have under appreciated the significance of this tournament and the billions that will be tuning in. Americans seem to be unbothered by the whole thing which will bleed into the quality of the games. Gl
