We need to build again. All the talk of leading in AI, decoupling from China, national security, reshoring manufacturing is just hot air until we show we can actually build stuff in a timely and cost effective way.

Possibly the most painful chart to look at in energy policy:

Many users blamed regulations, local opposition, and lack of innovation for US transmission line additions plummeting below DOE targets while dismissing renewables as inefficient and urging nuclear power instead.

Permitting reform now

@AlecStapp One project took 18 years to get a permit to build a power line:

18 years! For a power line!

It took us 4 years to build Hoover Dam!

@AA_Millsap We also need a plan in case it turns out that we can’t actually build very many new high-voltage line-miles

@AA_Millsap @LPDonovan Tough to do that when half the country makes building anything illegal.

@AA_Millsap Need to find alternatives to overhead power lines. Local opposition will always slow these down or outright prevent them. The lack of innovation in this area is maddening. Come on people

@AA_Millsap We need to build large scale generating power such as nuclear and knock it off with the inefficient, intermittent "renewables" and the batteries that catch fire.

China currently has 30 new large nuclear plants under construction. US has ZERO.
