This wouldn't work well for pathology images because you actually want to learn invariance to rotations. It doesn't matter how you rotate a cancer cell, it's still a cancer cell :)

I guess the more accurate way of saying it is in natural images the orientation of the image has semantic meaning while it doesn't for pathology images...
