Strong representation from the blind community at this hearing. Several other blind people have testified about the ways AVs would give them independence and make their trips faster and more predictable.
In Boston's AV hearing last year, they had a bunch of union AV critics testify first, then had blind pro-AV witnesses toward the end. In DC today they are doing the opposite — disability advocates (including several pro-Waymo blind speakers) went before any union testimony. https://twitter.com/binarybits/status/2076729843685736886
Blind advocate Claire Stanley: "The first time I took an autonomous vehicle in Phoenix, I experienced freedom... I did not have to deal with drivers who would deny me because of my guide dog. I did not have to drive with a driver who made me uncomfortable.
Stanley says federal law guarantees the right of blind passenger to travel with their guide dogs, but despite this that she has been denied service on multiple occasions due to her guide dog.
