Public Still Confuses AI With Google And Blames Data Centers For Drying Lakes
Many users dismissed AI as essentially Google while calling public confusion and data-center complaints demoralizingly ignorant and environmentally harmful.

Important to help educate people on what this stuff really is if you have the ability
By the way, the vast majority of people still think that AI is basically just google and that the datacenters are causing all the lakes to disappear

It's not their fault. The information environment is totally fucked

@yacineMTB my guess is once “AI” is more obviously Useful And A Good Thing to people, meaning all the products and services they rely on are guzzling tokens by the trillion, then the popular support will flip

@yacineMTB The water thing isn’t an actual issue, but in my state there are predatory power company’s (Ga power) that are using eminent domain to take peoples homes, then there’s the issue of completely useless city boards who ignore what the actual residents want

@nearX86 @yacineMTB I mean, I can't think of many services I use that provide a better user experience than they did 5-10 years ago, so knowing they are using AI would not be doing them any favors

@yacineMTB It’s a coordination problem. Consider how the world changed when telephone and radio were introduced.
Remember back when everyone knew about bad storms or tornadoes because of TV broadcasts?

well that’s the bet right? AI either diffuses everywhere and obviously makes the products and services better, or…. the compute buildout is for nothing
the same way businesses switching to Computers when they broadly came available made Computers an obviously useful thing to all people (even far lefties)

@yacineMTB paradoxically, the person in my life who is the least proficient with technology, understands better than most, how much everything is about to change

@yacineMTB while the unseen asset that sits underneath.

@yacineMTB tokenphobic is the new homophobic

@yacineMTB The last year has been very sad. I’ve slowly come to the realization that the average person is really stupid.

@yacineMTB GPT 7 coming back to update the people in 2029 after a successful /goal run on global warming

@yacineMTB This is so incredibly true. The number of uninitiated midwits who run their mouths with zero understanding is demoralizing.

@yacineMTB I have not yet found a list of meaningful pros and cons for ai. Everything is just hype or fear mongering which is annoying. I don’t need it sold to me, I’m a customer. I’m trying to understand its purpose better.

@yacineMTB I think it’s cool but I haven’t a clue about it. It’s basically just a better version of Ask Jeeves for me.

@yacineMTB to be fair ai for majority of people is any decent algorithm

@CrodleMon @yacineMTB My guess: Space junk. Environmental activists for space. It’ll be a weird blip and likely a foreign adversary who will use that to wage info war against the us to slow down SpaceX.

@yacineMTB I had a sister of a friend ask me what the best search engine AI was

When glass was first popularized many of culture at the time presumed their body parts were made of glass, particularly their buttocks. When microchips were popularized many people said they had them in their body as well. I think things will get a lot weirder than thinking the lakes are disappearing soon after AI gains more functionality. The AI psychosis experienced by some up to this point is child’s play compared to what is possible.

@yacineMTB There’s an irony here. Essentially if AI doesn’t save us… they’re right.
