We're launching a $10 million RFP for R&D on one of the biggest barriers to alternative protein adoption: taste. 🧵

We're funding work across four areas: 🌱 Off-flavor reduction in plant proteins 🥩 Fat systems that generate meatiness during cooking 🥚 Egg reduction and replacement 🐟 Characterizing the flavor of welfare-priority fish species (tilapia, carp, catfish, among others)

We're looking for researchers and teams from outside the usual alt-protein circles, including chemists, food physicists, plant breeders, formulators, and engineers.
Applications from universities, research institutes, startups, companies, and nonprofits are all welcome.

At the current scale of factory farming, even small shifts in consumption would spare an enormous number of animals. But plant-based products often lose customers because they don't taste good enough.
We believe targeted R&D could help to solve this problem.

Awards range from $100k to $1m, with typical durations of 2-3 years.
